Strength training causes brain fog, fatigue - Hello, For the past several years, my body has responded very strangely to strength training. I can do cardio just fine - exercise bike, etc., but as soon as I do any kind of strength training - even if it's just situps or pushups - my body..

I think doing cardio before weights would definitely limit my ability
to lift heavy things. So, for my goals, it's kind of stupid. But
making you fat seems silly. Does he also think doing only cardio, but
no weight training will make you fat? Then why would extra exercise
after your cardio make you fat? I don't get it.

I think what he meant to say was that if you exercise aerobically prior to
weights, your body will use muscle for fuel during that workout. Hence, you
won't burn fat during rest at the same rate because of the lost muscle used
as fuel.

Burning calories via cardio does not make you fat, eating too much
does. When you do cardio depends on your goals--if you are looking to
build size, do a moderate amount afterwards or during a separate
session.

Good point. Lyle used to say cardio 20 minutes twice per week was
sufficient for cardio health. If you're looking for size, you need to eat
above maintenance for awhile, then cut to drop the additional fat that came
with the LBM gains.

I had my best weight losses when I cut cardio almost completely and simply
watched my diet with weight training. You could argue that the time spent
on cardio could be better spent on weights. We're obviously talking from a
weight loss/gain perspective. Cardio health is another matter.
