I'm 37, 5' 10" and 186lbs. About 5 weeks ago, I was about 205lbs and
wanted to get into some kind of shape after doing nothing about it my
whole life. I changed my diet significantly and started on the
treadmill and using weights (all done at home). I do about 45 mins.
on the treadmill one day, then the next lift weights (not trying to
get huge or incredibly cut so I just do all major muscle groups in
about an hour) and repeat with no days off if I can help it. Lately
though, my arms have just been feeling very tired all the time...even
just brushing my teeth or toweling off after a shower I can just feel
my muscles almost burning. Is this normal?? Do I need more rest days
or do you think it's a nutrition thing? Below is an average day of
what I eat...(I seem to have a high metabolism and get hungry alot
during the day which is the reason for the bars)....only liquid is
drinking water all day. Any advice would be appreciated (and even if
it has nothing to do with my problem...please feel free to criticize
my eating habits...I'll take any help I can get).
Breakfast 8am:
Light Yogurt
Bowl of cut up melon/canteloupe
Snack 10am:
Zone Perfect bar
Lunch 12pm:
1 PB&J (Whole grain bread with natural peanut butter and a little
jelly)
1 banana
Snack 3pm (not always...sometimes just wait until dinner):
Zone Perfect Bar
Dinner 6pm:
Grilled chicken on Wheat roll with lettuce and tomato w/honey mustard
Snack 8pm:
Either Zone bar or an apple with a light yogurt >> Stay informed about: Advice for newbie with tired muscles? |

That's a lot of weight loss for 5 weeks. Calorie intake looks too low
for the amount of exercise you say you are doing. have some eggwhites
in the morning and shitcan the banana and jelly for lunch, too much
sugar, maybe a nice garden salad with some protein... try adding the
usual supplements and for the pain in your joints get some MSM. >> Stay informed about: Advice for newbie with tired muscles? |

Mike:
I agree with the other statement about your intake of calories.
You say your metabolism is fast. It looks like you're eating pretty
good, just try to increase the intake of food. How many days are you
training? How many days are you strength training/cardio? You don't
need to train everyday. Rest is a big key as well as eating properly
and exercising correctly. Do you record what you do when strength
training? There are alot of things to factor in Mike. I have a good
article on what bananas do for you if you'd like. Joe >> Stay informed about: Advice for newbie with tired muscles? |

Mike:
Bananas are GREAT! I'll send you the article. You can add a zone
bar or another fruit of your choosing for a snack. That's good you
cut out the sodas and replaced it with water. Mike, your
over-training. Cut the days down and work harder in a shorter period
of time. Your body needs rest as well. Any questions, check my
website (www.wetrainu.net) out and give me a buzz. Joe >> Stay informed about: Advice for newbie with tired muscles? |

Probably ...
Lettuce and tomatoes are your only vegetables? where's the carrots,
green vegetables, etc?
And no other grains besides breads. Oatmeal? Brown rice? Whole wheat
pasta?
Chicken is great but yogurt is a more carb than protein source. How
about eggs? fish? cottage cheese?
I think your overall eating sux ..bars are ok once in awhile but not as
a mainstay. You need to eat real foods instead of bars.
Mke this a lifestyle change and not just a temporary diet.

Ok...I'll try to up the calories...would eating more Zone bars do the
trick or are they not the best way to do that? Most of the weight
I've lost is I think due to cutting out soda...I was almost at 2
liters per day of Pepsi which was replaced by all water. I'm doing
"something" every day...treadmill one day, the next weights, then
treadmill, weights...etc. I alternate days with each. I do have a
white board with my workout and how much weight I'm currently lifting
(it's certainly not much since I've never worked out before but I've
gone up a little since I started and people have actually noticed a
difference). I'll take a look online about bananas...I'm starting to
get the impression they're not as good as I thought? >> Stay informed about: Advice for newbie with tired muscles? |

No.
I suggest you go to the hospital and and stay there for the night for a
HypnoGram.
See if your sleep patttern is normal.
